My Overview
p e r s o n a l r e v i e w
My advice to anyone trying to get an internship with an event company of any kind is making sure you are prepared for the amount of weekends you are going to have to give up. I love what I do, and have thoroughly enjoyed the last year of working events, but this life is not for everyone! It is a very rewarding business to be in if you have the right spirit about you, and is something I do not think I will ever tire of doing. If you are still not sure that events are for you, you're in the right place. Being able to intern under a good boss is ideal, and Heather has been an amazing boss. She encourages your vision and input, and corrects where it needs to be corrected. She loves sharing any and every little thing she can about the industry, and about what she has learned over the past few years. While both Vestige and EPOCH are owned by Heather, they are run completely differently, so it is a great opportunity for you as a student to learn multiple aspects of the industry from the same person!

j o b d e s c r i p t i o nAs an intern under Heather Alana Events you should be available for most weekends to help with delivery, setup and tear down of events. You must be able to lift and move semi-heavy items easily. It is not required that you be enrolled in college, but we do ask that you are between the ages of 18 and 22. Be able to take criticism and direction well, and follow directions without hesitation. Be able to act and react quickly to spontaneous situations. Have knowledge about social media and blog posting. Retain basic customer care skills, and be outgoing (able to talk with clients). Must remain somewhat calm in stressful situations, around large groups of stressed people. Enjoy what you are doing, and know that everything will work out!

While this is not technically a paid internship, Heather does her best to treat her interns right. She gives countless opportunities to make money through working hours with each company. She is great at accepting design ideas from interns, and encourages your vision. When I started working with Heather I did not think I had an eye for design, but I feel much more confident in my abilities just from her allowing me to be free in my opinions. Heather is also great about giving constructive criticism while also acknowledging that what you did was a huge step in your career. She provides so many opportunities for you to become independent while working under her. Her desire to be open about the business and what she does to further the business allows for your knowledge to grow much more than you would expect. As you gain her trust and show her that you are a hard worker with a passion for the business, Heather desires to give you opportunities to run events on your own so that you can gain experience for whatever your next step in life is!
